4th July - 2nd August 2009In the Gardens and Woods...An exhibition and sale of garden sculpturesThe 'Gallery in the Garden' Sculpture Trail takes you over the lush lawns, down the sweeping drive and on into the fantastic laurel woods. Feel the warmth of the summer sun whilst listening to the birds serenading from the boughs above, all the time looking out for another exciting sculpture located at the end of a winding wooded path or confidently in full view on the lawns or nestled amongst the shrubs and specimen trees. With care, we encourage guests to feel the sculptures on show from the coolness of the stone pieces to the textures of the ceramics and the polished surfaces of the metal. Whether professional or amateur gardener or simply someone who enjoys beautiful spaces, the Gallery in the Garden has plenty to inspire and excite - a winning marriage of nature and man made delights. In the Galleries...Art EuropeA major summer show, which brings together ceramicists from nine European countries: John Piper - An exhibition of original signed lithographic printsOf all the artists active in Britain during the twentieth century, John Piper was probably the most versatile. He once claimed that he had worked in every medium available to him. Owing to the richness and far-reaching nature of his achievement, it will take a long time before his multi-facetted career can be fully appreciated and his artistic and cultural contribution properly assessed. From childhood and throughout the rest of his life Piper absorbed in words and pictures a broad swathe of this country's Romantic heritage. He explored, drew, and photographed its architecture and its vernacular buildings. In his printmaking, as in his painting, he frequently took as his subject matter cottages and castles, abbeys and churches, mountains and menhirs, houses, coastlines, beaches, piers and harbours. This show will comprise around 15 pieces of work covering a variety of subject matters. John Piper born 13 December 1903, died 28 June 1992 Forthcoming exhibition
