Henri Matisse at The GalleryAn exhibition of Henri Matisse Original LithographsHenri Matisse was a French painter, sculptor, graphic artist and designer. From around 1920 he enjoyed an international reputation, with Picasso, as the foremost painter of his time and he was the supreme master in those trends in 20th century art, which are represented by calligraphic pattern and the abstract use of pure colour. Alastair Taylor gallery owner says "We are delighted to be staging this exhibition and sale of work by one of the 20th Century's greatest artists. It is a new venture for The Gallery at Bevere to have such an exhibition and we hope that it will create a lot of interest with those enjoying such exciting and influential work." A lithograph is described as a print made by drawing on stone or zinc plate then wetting it and applying greasy ink, which adheres to the drawn lines. Dampened paper is then applied and rubbed over with a special press to make the final image. An original lithograph is one where the artist not only created the image but personally directed and supervised the first "pulls" Expression and HarmonyAn exhibition of new Work by Antonia Salmon, Jack Doherty, Gary Wood and Ruthanne TudballHarmony from Antonia Salmon, well known for her fine burnished sculpture and pots and Jack Doherty whose porcelain work is constantly developing often in unexpected ways alongside the Expression of Gary Wood whose most recent work has focused on abstract ceramic panels and Ruthanne Tudball's exciting shiny and matt surfaces with textural qualities punctuated by the play of fire and vapour - soda glazing at its height.
